Citizenship Students
Last week our local MP Mr Michael Gove visited the College in response to our Citizenship students communicating with him about their GCSE coursework. Our brilliant students presented their work to him on the voting age, tuition fees and methods to increase voter turnout. Mr Gove was impressed with their in-depth knowledge and understanding of relevant and current issues in society at this time. A wonderful experience for our students to engage in political discussion with a local MP!
Production
Yesterday we were thrilled to host 300 primary school children to watch our magnificent production SIX and the feedback from our first two evening performances has been fantastic. The excitement in College has been incredible and all our staff and students involved in the production have been amazing. If you haven’t already, I urge you to book your tickets for one of the remaining performances as soon as possible so as not to miss out on this wonderful experience.
Debating Success
At the weekend we had two Collingwood College teams competing in the debating finals day at the Oxford Union. Throughout the day the teams debated with great passion against teams from the Philippines, Swaziland, Hungary, Ireland and Holland as well as top fee-paying schools from throughout the UK. We were one of the very few English state comprehensive schools taking part and our exceptional performances have ranked us in the top 10. This is simply outstanding given 116 teams competed on the day and 1000 teams entered the competition altogether.
