It has been another challenging term with COVID-related absence for staff and students continuing to be an issue.  We have also been quietly preparing for Ofsted as our next inspection is expected very soon, although we have kept this preparation very low-key and simply focussed on running an outstanding school every day.

There have been many highlights this term, including an excellent Careers Day, our first Diversity week, huge success for our debating teams, a fabulous College production of ‘In the Heights’, and a general feeling that, despite COVID still being in our midst, that we are getting back to more normal times.

I think one of the most significant developments has been in the area of behaviour and attendance.

The retention of the split break/lunch structure, the appointment of two Student Support Officers, a more proactive Referral Room procedure, increased SLT presence on gates and in ‘pop-ins’, and a focus on inclusion and restorative work as opposed to suspensions, has resulted in some remarkable improvements in our data for sanctions as well as, most importantly, fostering the environment required for maximum learning and positive social interaction.

In terms of attendance, the appointment of a new, experienced outward facing Attendance Manager and a Family Link worker has refreshed our focus on attendance with some very encouraging improvements for some individuals and year groups.

I am also very encouraged by the attainment, data and ATL figures which are demonstrating very high levels of progress and engagement in all year groups and are indicating that there will be some excellent outcomes for our students in the summer examinations.
